Phone Numbers
This page describes WhatsApp business phone numbers, their requirements, management information, and unique features.
Registering phone numbers
A valid business phone number must be registered before it can be used to send and receive messages via the WhatsApp Business Platform. Registered numbers can still be used for everyday purposes, such as calling and text messages, but cannot be used with WhatsApp Messenger (“WhatsApp”).
Numbers already in use with WhatsApp Messenger cannot be registered unless the WhatsApp Messenger account is deleted first. If a number is banned on WhatsApp Messenger and there is an intention to register it for the WhatsApp Business Platform, it must first be unbanned through the appeal process first.
Business phone numbers can only be registered with 360dialog using the Embedded Signup.
Eligibility requirements
To register a phone number for use with 360dialog, the number must meet the following criteria:
The number must be owned by the business
Unless using a +1555 number - see below.
It must include a valid country code and area code, short codes are not supported
It must be able to receive voice calls or SMS messages
It is recommended to use an existing business-owned phone number when integrating with 360dialog.
360dialog does not provide phone numbers as part of the service.
In certain cases, a Meta-provided +1 555 number may be used. However, using a dedicated business number is recommended for long-term reliability and scalability.
Registered Number Cap / Phone number limits
New business portfolios are initially capped at 2 registered business phone numbers, which can increase up to 20.
The limit may automatically increase if the business is verified or a phone number has reached the 2000-message threshold and sent enough paid messages.
When a limit increase is approved, the business receives a business_capability_update webhook event and a notification in Meta Business Suite.
If the business has been verified for over a week but the limit hasn’t increased, improve the phone number’s message quality scores. Once the scores meet Meta’s requirements, the system will automatically re-evaluate and update the limit.
View Phone numbers in WhatsApp Manager
Business phone numbers and their current status appear in the Status column in the WhatsApp Manager > Account tools > Phone numbers panel.
Login Meta Business Manager > Settings
Go to WhatsApp Accounts > WhatsApp Manager

Each phone number status is displayed.

Downgrade Phone Numbers
Deleting (also known as downgrading) a phone number from the WhatsApp Business Platform makes it possible to:
Use the phone number on the personal WhatsApp app, or the WhatsApp Business app
Re-register the phone number on the WhatsApp Business Platform (when migrating the phone number is not possible)
Deleting a phone number from the WhatsApp Business Platform requires having a Facebook account that has administrator access to the Meta Business Manager associated with the phone number.
A phone number cannot be deleted if paid messages were sent in the past 30 days.
A phone number can only be deleted using Meta Business Manager > WhatsApp Manager. There is no API endpoint or alternate method to delete phone numbers from the WhatsApp Business Platform.
360Dialog clients who have lost access to their Meta Business Manager should contact our support team for assistance. 360dialog Partners cannot request phone number deletion on behalf of clients.
To downgrade a phone number:
In Meta Business Manager, go to Business Settings > WhatsApp Accounts > WhatsApp Manager

Navigate to Phone numbers and locate the number you want to delete
Click the trash icon

Confirm the phone to be deleted and press Next.

Enter your password and select the reason for deletion.

Press delete to finish the process.
